India and Russia have always shared a strong strategic, military, economic and diplomatic relationship. Development of India-Russia relations has been a key pillar of India's foreign policy. Russia has been a long-standing partner for India. The Strategic Partnership has been elevated to the level of a “Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership”.

Intensifying the trade and economic relations has been the main agenda for India and Russia as they revised the targets of increasing bilateral investment to $50 billion and bilateral trade to $30 billion by 2025.

The Russian Ministry of Economic Development has launched ‘Single window Service’ in October 2018 to facilitate hassle-free investment by Indian companies which will help achieve mutual trade and investment target. Some of the key priority sectors identified for focused interactioninclude hydrocarbons, pharmaceuticals, mining, fertilizers, heavy engineering, gems & jewelry, chemicals, fertilizers and agriculture & food processing industry.

Major Indian Exports to Russia:Pharmaceutical products, Electrical machinery & equipment, Nuclear Reactors & Boilers, Organic Chemicals, Coffee, Tea and Spices, etc. The value of exports stood at $2,389.47 million in 2018-19.

Major Indian Imports from Russia:Mineral Fuels, Mineral Oils, and Mineral Waxes, Natural or cultured pearls, precious and semi-precious stones and jewellery, Project goods, Fertilizers, Paper and Paperboard articles, etc. The value of imports stood at $5,840.44 million in 2018-19.

Regular cultural exchange between India and Russia has been taking place. The Embassy of India through the grant provided by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of India conducted a six month long “Festival of India in Russia” from September 2018 to March 2019 in 22 cities with 34performances by 10 groups, showcasing the best of Indian music, dance, food and spiritual traditions.
